Vladimir Tenev
Biography
Vlad Tenev is the Co-Founder and CEO of Robinhood and a first-generation immigrant from Bulgaria. After receiving his B.S. in Mathematics from Stanford University, Vlad and long-time friend Baiju Bhatt founded Celeris, a high-frequency trading company, and Chronos Research, a firm specializing in low latency software for trading. After discovering that big Wall Street firms were paying next-to-nothing to trade stocks and in response to the Occupy Wall Street movement in 2013, Vlad and Baiju founded Robinhood to democratize trading.
About Robinhood
Robinhood was founded with the belief that the financial system should be built to work for everyone. The firm initially started as a trading app that allows investors trade stocks without paying commissions or fees but has since expanded into options, exchange-traded funds, cryptocurrency and “Robinhood Cash Management”.
At its last fundraising round in September 2020, Robinhood was valued at $11.7bn. Most recently, the firm has selected Goldman Sachs as lead left bookrunner for an initial public offering, which may value the company at over $20bn.
